An overview of PC materials

Dec 24,20

PC is one of the most used materials in the CNC-maching radpid prototyping, especially for Japanese customers.

PC Plastics - Name
Chinese name: Polycarbonate
English name :Polycarbonate

Character
Specific gravity :1.18-1.20 g/cm3
Molding shrinkage rate :0.5-0.8%
Molding temperature: 230-320℃
Drying conditions: 110-120℃ for 8 hours
It can be worked at -60~120℃.

Sketch
PC polycarbonate is a kind of amorphous engineering material, which has excellent impact strength, thermal stability, gloss, antibacterial property, flame retardant property and pollution resistance.
The OTched Izod impact Stregth of PC is very high, and the shrinkage rate is very low, generally 0.1%~0.2%.
PC has good mechanical properties, but poor flow characteristics, so the injection molding process of this material is difficult.
In the selection of quality PC materials, to the ultimate expectations of the product as a benchmark.
If plastics require high impact resistance, use PC materials with low flow rate.
Instead, high flow rate PC materials can be used to optimize the injection molding process.

Performance
The material performance
High impact strength, good dimensional stability, colorless transparent, good coloration, electrical insulation, corrosion resistance, good wear resistance, but poor self-lubrication, stress cracking tendency, high temperature hydrolysis, and other resin compatibility.
Suitable for making instrument small parts, transparent insulating parts and impact resistant parts.
formability
1. Amorphous material, good thermal stability, wide range of molding temperature, poor fluidity.
Small moisture absorption, but sensitive to water, must be treated by drying.
Forming shrinkage rate is small, easy to melt cracking and stress concentration, so the forming conditions should be strictly controlled, the plastic parts must be annealed.
2. For plastic parts with high melting temperature, high viscosity and more than 200g, heating type extension nozzle should be used.
3. The cooling speed is fast, the mold pouring system should be coarse and short, and the cold material well should be set, the gate should be large, and the mold should be heated.
4. Material temperature is too low will cause the lack of material, plastic parts matte, material temperature is too high easy to overflow edge, plastic bubbling.
When the mold temperature is low, the shrinkage rate, elongation rate and impact strength are high, while bending, compression and tensile strength are low.
When the mold temperature exceeds 120 degrees, the mold cools slowly and is prone to deformation and adhesion

Use
Optical lighting: used for manufacturing large lamp shade, protective glass, eyepiece tube of optical instrument, etc., also can be widely used for transparent material on airplane.
Electronic appliances: polycarbonate is an excellent E (120℃) grade insulation material, used for manufacturing insulation connectors, coil frames, tube bases, insulating sleeves, telephone shells and parts, battery shells of mining lamps, etc.
It can also be used for making parts with high dimensional accuracy, such as optical disc, telephone, electronic computer, video recorder, telephone exchanger, signal relay and other communication equipment.
Polycarbonate thin touch is also widely used in capacitors, insulating leather bags, audio tapes, color video tapes, etc.
Mechanical equipment: used for manufacturing all kinds of gear, rack, worm gear, worm, bearing, CAM, bolt, lever, crankshaft, ratchet wheel, also can be used for some mechanical equipment housing, cover and frame parts.
Medical equipment: cups, cylinders, bottles and dental instruments that can be used for medical purposes, drug containers and surgical instruments, and even artificial organs such as artificial kidneys and lungs.
Other aspects: used as hollow reinforced double wall panels, greenhouse glass, etc.
Used in textile industry for spinning yarn tube, spinning frame bearing, etc.
Daily use for milk bottles, tableware, toys and rapid prototyping, models, etc.
